Architect Tomorrow - Shaping the Future
We are living in a “world after midnight”, as Eddie Obeng puts it — a world in which our environment is changing faster than we can understand it, and architects are at the centre of this change. Thrust into the limelight as CIOs look to make greater use of their skills in driving digital transformation, this has brought with it new opportunities, alongside its fair share of challenges, for those working in the industry. Now more than ever in 2020 when it feels like the future is already here and the world feels upside down; it is the time for architects to collaborate and consider the broader implications to society of our architecture work.
That’s why Architect Tomorrow exists; to help shape the future of the profession - through content and meet ups. Designed to offer a place for architects to share ‘war room’ stories and collaborate on solutions.
Architects Are Taking Centre Stage
Whether you work on the architecture of the business, cloud systems, servers, end-user computing, security, applications or other parts of the enterprise, there’s no doubt that your skills have become hugely important in recent years. According to Deloitte, architects are increasingly being moved “out of their traditional ivory towers and into the trenches” in order to simplify technology stacks and improve agility. If successful, their work can also unlock developer productivity, optimise operating costs and help to drive the digital transformation successes so critical to many modern businesses.
But this isn’t always easy. Long-calcified IT and business silos and decades of legacy technology systems can present serious challenges for the modern architect, and with a serious skills shortage, 54% of firms report challenges in filling architect roles. Many architects will also need to become more fluent in business strategy and in articulating their own value, in order to achieve buy in and improve outcomes.
All of which makes it important for practitioners to have communities in which they can share and learn.

This is where Architect Tomorrow comes in. It’s an online community focused on how innovative architectures of the future will help solve business challenges, and how the role itself will develop going forward.

Architect Tomorrow is providing a community for IT architects to share their knowledge, experience and insights in a forum with like minded professionals, and through discussions and debates about some of the biggest issues facing enterprise and solution architects today, help them evolve their profession.
We’ve already had several fascinating roundtable discussions to talk through the many challenges facing today’s architects – from digital transformation to legacy and shadow IT. And we’ve discussed smart ways of solving them with things like platform architecture, cloud, containers and DevOps.
